I asked a high school track athlete what track athletes do to get faster. He said that they have to do weight lifting to get stronger, work on having more powerful starts, and build endurance so that they finish races as strong as possible. In other words, in order to get faster they need to work hard and practice, practice, practice.
In sports the effect of hard work and practice is often visible. The results of hard work and practice may not be as visible in other aspects of life, for example in school or with relationships, but are just as or perhaps more important. You can succeed in life, it just takes hard work and practice, practice, practice.
